I’m in the process of moving/downsizing my colossal iTunes library so that it’ll all fit on my mac. No more plugging in the external. Alfred pointed out that running that beast all day was probably a bad idea considering that I’m technically supposed to use it as a backup and not my regular harddrive. So, for safety’s sake I’m doing the transfer. Point of all this is that I have been forced to go through all this shit sitting on the harddrive.

I think in this day and age we all collect a tremendous amount of “e-waste” (And no, I don’t mean old cellphones and the like– but we probably collect all this shit anyways). I wonder if its really a burden? Or just part of our society nowadays. Something that happens and no one really thinks about it. iPods get bigger every year right?  I’m not a pack-rat, I mean its all organized after all. But does that make it any better? Not sure.  Its still just a collection of stuff that I rarely look at. Its fun to go through from time to time and I suppose that in reality its not going to take up more space in the study if I add more or less to the harddrive right?

Return to Form?

BACK. So… Nick has been intensely holding down the fort at UNKITSCH and the summer has been kinda slow for the rest of us but I assure you that it has not gone by as one unproductive blur of beer infused with sunshine..(maybe a little). Nay, I’ve been opening my eyes to the wonders of Europe and meeting fantastic people all along the way. A colourful experience whether I was roaming through volcanic Iceland or stumbling down La Ramblas in Barcelona during the wee hours of the morning.

While it is a shocker to go from 100km/h traveling and then suddenly find yourself back at home, I’m taking it in stride. I have a plan to continue some of the best things I learned while backpacking, like meeting new people. The world is filled with people you just haven’t spoken to yet. So my advice today is to look at that person sitting beside you on the subway.. what are they doing? reading a paper? skip.. staring into the abyss? gogogo smile and give them your best line. Is there a pickup guide for friends? Because “Baby are you an angel, I think I just died and went to heaven”– doesn’t really work in normal situations ; )

In other news… I’m now living in Hong Kong full time. I’ll be switching my music coverage up… probably be a bit more cantopop thrown in there haha

Been A While..

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Internet spammers you’re dearly missed. Wonderful as the keyword loaded comments are or the heartfelt messages directed from a certain infamous vampire named Robert Pattinson, our new filter is put to good use as I no longer have to go through them individually.

Been kinda busy, well, not really. I have excuses or diversions– craigslist anyone?? I made somewhere around $500 shelling my wares on there so I won’t have to pay to send them back to Hong Kong. Ohh that reminds me, I’ll be moving back there in August so now I’ll be the resident Asian blogger. Maybe some hot new cantopop tracks will find there way to unkitsch.

Unkitsch Line

Enough of that– on to more important matters. Summer tunes! Finally here in all is wondrous ridiculously hot glory (Toronto got smacked with a serious heatwave last week). Quasi-psychedelic Space Rock is the order of the day. I’m talking about Starfucker or Pyramiddd depending on whether you’re in Europe. I love their sound, just kinda fits with that childlike feeling that I associate with summer. They hail from Portland Oregon and their sound is rather unique to me. Seems experimental on the one hand but never veers too far from being something rhytmic and easy going. Definitely the best find for me in A WHILE. Simply put I fucking love it.

Goðafoss by Anna.Andres ( Have a great weekend)

My eurotrip starts with Iceland June 14th. Been dreaming about this for a long longtime. Something about Iceland has just had me transfixed for ages.. something about the history, vikings and all that, combined with this progressive forward tiny little nation which only got independence after WWII. Having been really hard hit recently by the financial crisis of 2008, I’m not going as a hawk looking for a deal, but it doesn’t hurt that this once expensive place to visit has come down a notch. I’ll be spending most of my time in Reykjavík. Made myself a little icelandic playlist of some favourites as well as new found groups. I didn’t know until two days about that the Sigur Ros singer had a solo album out. (Jonsi). Its pretty awesome.

video– NSFW.

So if anyone is out there eurotripping as well– send a note my way through the comments. I’ll be couchsurfing to save some cash through Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and maybe Spain. Kind of a genius way to meet new people. Travel safe!

jeremy snell

I’m a big fan of photography. While my own skills in the field are on the very amateur side, I do have a big appreciation for those who take the time to hone their craft. I stumbled upon Jeremy Snell’s flickr account this morning and it kind of blew me away. His website is fantastic as well. I would characterize his work as dreamy. Check it out! Have a wonderful day “y’all”.

On Friends

looking west.....explored by Pat Miccolis

Epicurus on Friends: we don’t exist unless there is someone who can see us existing, what we say has no meaning until someone can understand, while to be surrounded by friends is constantly to have our identity confirmed; their knowledge and care for us have the power to pull us from our numbness.

The new Marina & The Diamonds remix is really mellow in comparison to the Penguin Prison remix that I had on repeat a couple months ago (Link). Seems this song has taken on a whole new light for me. Also, quality Holy Ghost! as always  <–a devoted fan right here. Go to their Myspace page and check out the vibe interview where they lay out all the gear they use. Pretty oldschool synths and live drum kits, very different from a lot of computer tech wizard DJs out there. Hopefully we’ll get an LP from Siriusmo sometime in 2010, I love his song “High Together”– check it here.

Not much going on in my life right now. Limbo has set in with the only steady thing being music and nukes. Not always in that order. Sunny days ahead ya? Hope sooooo, April showers are such a downer. Ohh news, all of us here in Canadian side of Unkitsch are off to LCD Soundsystem and Holy Ghost! (ahhh dreamy) on my birthday. I’m a lucky boy huh.

Adult Playgrounds

What about a playground for adults? What would be in it? I would not recommend you to google search “adult playground” because for obvious reasons you will get a fair amount of “adult” clubs or websites… unless thats your thing *wink wink*. Dig deeper, for science! My “adult playground” would be very similar to one for children. It would be one part social and one part physical.

Social
There would be a bar. Sorry, I’m a grown up and enjoy a drink or two (or six) to help me loosen up. Various locations for making pleasant conversation with new-found-best-friends-forever (NFBFF) would be scattered all around, because hey– you gotta be able to chat or whats the point? While the focus of this place is as much about “connecting” and having fun, the emphasis on “disconnecting” is an important aspect as well, so that means no cellphones or internet. Live music and wicked Disc Jockeys are a must spread throughout.
*sidenote* while boring people do exist — we could have a class prior to entering so can improve their conversation. Think of it as kind of like Toastmasters: Adult Playground Edition.

Better think of somewhere quick to hide, she is going to open her eyes in 3…2…1..

Physical
There would be a giant bed and bouncy castle, key word here being GIANT. There are going to be lots of people horsing (is that the right word?) around.. umm so it has to be massive and durable. There should be swings, monkey bars, and harnesses (so people climb really really high and be safe.. duh). Also in this magical place we could have a pool with infinite sunshine as well as the perfect hot tub. People will need places to dry off so I’m guessing a nice grassy lawn would be good. One more thing, there are no cars and bikes are situated all over the places.

So is a Playground for Adults really a resort? I’m reading this and it sounds like a resort. But resorts are so lame or expensive. Can you really go to a “nice” resort without paying a bomb? No, Sandals doesn’t count. You get what you pay for right? I suppose. Why not make a resort in the city. I’m not talking a Day Spa… Lets make it happen people. Resorts downtown for 20–30 somethings to hangout, drink, relax, sunshine.. all in one place. That still sounds an awful like a resort. fuck.

Local+Natives+8
Check out this very hip band, Local Natives, I’m sure you hear about them lots this summer! Seriously, they are fucking amazing.
