Whaaaaaaat?!?! Aeroplane just remixed Breakbot’s “Baby I’m Yours!” I may have just creamed my pants… Two of my favourite acts collide– I’m surprised the world hasn’t imploded. Long (and awesome) buildup in this song, as expected by the Aeroplane duo. Wait till that chorus kicks in, you might just cream your own pants.
Ed Banger has not been holding back since they signed Breakbot.
It all started with Tristan and I this afternoon. We went to grab some lunch at Fusaros here in Toronto (great place, recommend it to anyone who is a resident in these parts) and noticed the music they had going on in the background. Was a bunch of songs straight from the late 1990’s/early 2000’s and we were really digging them. Something about the music back then that you just don’t hear anymore… Some great tunes (that would’ve been the clubbing hits at the time) that get your feet moving, hips shaking (fists pumping too? haha), and body all-up-in-a-dancin’-groove.
Anyway, that little adventure inspired me to share some of those tunes. These are all classics, and if they aren’t already in your library, now is your chance. The song that started this all (that we heard in Fusaros) is Spiller’s “Groovejet” featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor (yeah– that British babe with that damn sexy voice!), which reminded me of Modjo’s “Lady,” which made me think of Stardust, then Daft Punk of course, Alan Braxe, Jamiroquai, and so on and so forth. Gotta love that train of thought.
As a bonus, I just noticed that Alfred (or Tristan) linked the new Breakbot music video on our FaceBook Unkitsch page! This is his first music video, and he did it with style (no surprise– he is one of our favourites here). So, without further adue, I present Breakbot’s “Baby I’m Yours (feat. Irfane):”
Daaaamn, it’s nice outside. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the warm weather for ages now and it seems like it’s here to stay (knock on wood). So in the spirit of that I’ve uploaded some solid tunes, following a kind of disco trend this time ’round, some songs that’ll get you hot and sweaty.
The first is a brand new and fresh song titled “Down To Love (Original Mix) Feat Jennifer Rhonwen” by Hot Toddy. I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this for awhile and finally did this morning– so naturally it goes straight on Unkitsch. What a really slow, smooth, and sexy sounding tune; play it and let that piano take you for a ride through this heat. The next two are oldies (but goodies): I’ve uploaded a song called “Lady Bug,” which was a huge hit back in its day. You might recognize it from Breakbot’s “Valentine Mixtape.” Gotta love the vox going on over the song, it’s pretty hilarious (“A nectar and tonic… A double!”). Lastly is one of my favourites, it never fails to get me grooving, titled “Give Me Love” by none other than Cerrone. The Twelves played this song last Friday night when we saw them spinning at TO’s Mod Club, as well it’s always a staple in all those Justice mixes. If you don’t have it in your library, now is your chance!
Yep. That’s right, some new Kavinsky for you all. He recently just dropped an EP titled “Nightcall.” Apparently he has been stuck in the studio working hard on his next album, and this is proof. Seeing as he is buddies with that whole Ed Banger Parisian scene, maybe we can expect some new Justice soon? I wish…
There’s not much else to say about Kavinsky other than: badass. It’s the sort of music you play when you ride up to some hip nightclub in your leathers and matte black motorcycle waiting for all those hotties to jump your bones. Unfortunately, we all don’t have motorcycles or sexy babes around our arms, so, no shame if you’re giving it a listen in your bedroom or on the way to class. I’ve uploaded the song “Nightcall” and a remix by none other than Breakbot. Apparently Kavinsky did the vocals himself on this track, alongside his girlfriend Lovefoxxx from CSS. Pretty neato. Did I mention it was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk fame? I bet you’re intrigued now.
If I had to sum up Aeroplane in one word, it’d be: SUPERTOTALLYAMAZINGAWESOME. Okay, maybe that’s a few words… But they deserve it. Truly. These dudes know how to make a mix. I first came across them last August, when I downloaded their Mix Chart August mix—when that Siruismo “High Together” beat kicked in I was forever sold.
What is so awesome about Aeroplane, you ask? Other than the fact that they make amazing tunes, or that they are another duo bursting out of that awesome Euro scene (apparently they are from Belgium), it’s the fact that they release a new mix every month. Below I’ve uploaded their 2010 January mix (because it opens with the new badass Breakbot track). These mixes feature songs from various artists: Breakbot, Joakim, Moby, Gorillaz, Hot Chip, Friendly Fires, and many more. The tunes they choose are hot! Also, if that doesn’t satisfy your eargasmic needs, here’s the link to the duo’s official SoundCloud page, where they upload all their monthlies. As a bonus, they provide tracklists there too, so if you find yourself curious about what a song might be in the mix, you can find out with one click. So bookmark and be sure to check it often, you won’t regret it—each mix is one hour of electronic-ey bliss.
These guys aren’t just mixers either, they produce some quality tunes too. Need proof? Tristan had their Friendly Fires’ “Paris” remix as his runner up for the best song of 2009 (Life in 2009). That remix of “Paris” is one of my all time favourites; it never fails to hit the spot. Still don’t believe me? I’ve uploaded their song “Whispers,” when the tune comes together at 4:40 your mind will probably explode. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
This week has been all about finishing. The problem now is what is about start? Work? Grad school? Well, for one thing– I’m travelling in June and that is not up for negotiation. Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark best prep themselves for my arrival. Its late and I’ve been busily working away on my final paper of university, I won’t lie, its a 15 page beast of a paper. After four years, it could very well be the best thing I’ve written in my life. I don’t care too much at this point what kind of marks I get, no one is going to be looking at these grades anyway. Senioritis you say? Indeed. It’ll all be over on Thursday at 11am. Then I’ll be back all over Unkitsch daily.
Apologies to Matty and any other of you regulars out there whom we let down with our absences as of late. I hope the new addition of Nick P. to our writing team has been a breath of fresh air– he’s got a keen eye and sharp ear and I’m sure loads of great mixes will find there way to Unkitsch, helping us grow and keep up the readership. Rock out to spring with some old and some new — and oldish new.
I thought I’d post these fantastic mixes because the Housse de Racket mix reminds so much of all the good times I was just hanging out in my room earlier this year, by hanging out I mean dancing my ass off. I’m going to offer a disclaimer– both of these mixes will give you rhythm you didn’t know you had. The Justice Xmas mix is actually the rejected mix they did for the Fabric series, don’t know why they turned it down though– its got such a great sound to it. The Breakbot mix is from a series of “Dance on Glass Mixes” they are all pretty good and offer a wide variety of great music. You can find some of the others on the facebook group here.
