I had two awesome meals in a row this weekend. TWO. Which brought me to discuss with my superhero friend: ccy, the difference between eating for the sake of eating, because you need sustenance to survive, and the actual joy of eating. The two meals were definitely of the later. Peter Pan on Queen and Peter had an awesome Winterlicious menu with braised lamb shank and polenta, a new favourite of mine. While the brunch menu at Lola’s Commisary was simple and classic with an Eggs Benedict and Cheesecake stuffed french toast. My world is all out of sorts, the food was delicious and so cheap. I wish there were more places like that close to my home. Winter is not exactly the prime time for exploring the culinary delights around the city. You must first have a plan — take a cab (this was the easiest and most cost effective, especially going in pairs or groups), then you must have a reservation (if you are doing the winterlicious business).
The whole other point of this was… I eat the usual shit that university students eat, fuck I hate going to subway, what the fuck else am I supposed to eat late on a saturday afternoon when I don’t feel like trekking over to get groceries? I was so pissed though because while a sub costs $11, the amazing eggs benedict I had was only $11. So the problem is– WHY?? I would rather have one Lola’s Commisary in every neighbourhood than 10 Subway sandwich places. ffs.
Here is a song my good friend Edouard, from Paris, passed on to me that was played at the Mr.Scruff concert at Wrongbar a couple weeks back.
